Each July, local bike shops join in our annual Bike Shop Challenge to see who can bring the biggest boost to our advocacy by recruiting new and renewing members to the SF Bicycle Coalition. The prize? An opportunity to be the official wrenchers at New Belgium’s Tour de Fat in Golden Gate Park, just this past weekend!
2017 Bike shop challenge winner is Avenue Cyclery.
Avenue Cyclery has brightened the entrance to Golden Gate Park and the streets of our city for nearly 45 years. Founded in 1973, they’re the second-oldest bike shop in our city, helping to encourage and support people who bike for nearly as long as your SF Bicycle Coalition (which was founded in 1971.)
I always prefer exploring on bike and foot because you really feel the transitions from one neighborhood to the next. Before doing anything, stop into Avenue Cyclery, just across from the Golden Gate Park. The checkered floor adds vintage character, and the staff are knowledgable both about bicycles and the city. Their Trek rental bikes were super smooth, the gears helping you climb hills way easier than my single speed back in San Diego would have allowed! Let Brian, the manager, know I sent you, and he’ll hook you up! ($30/day rentals)
Bike Shop Brings a Boost to Our Advocacy This Summer
As people who bike in San Francisco we’re spoiled by the number of incredible bike shops within our city limits. In just about every neighborhood there’s a great shop ready to support you in any and all your bicycling endeavors.
